The Truth Technique

Whether it’s a company crisis or a watershed announcement, going public with the truth requires technique.

The media’s starting point may be scepticism, but more usually disbelief.

They’re used to spin and spin is mostly what they get. Platitudes, PR-speak and painful reporting.

Corporations and their leaders fluent in the language of truth and the techniques of truthtelling can swiftly control the media narrative, and be sought after as trusted experts in their fields.

Gareth has designed truthtelling scenarios reflecting real-life situations that could face a company and its leaders.

The scenarios play out in a variety of settings, from full studio interviews with multiple cameras – to ‘ambush’-style interviews in the street. Media editing and post-production methods are broken down.

With news-footage and other actual reportage, the course examines powerful truthtellers in action, analysing their individualised techniques for creating public trust. On the other end of the scale, case studies of companies and their leaders ‘spinning out of control’ are scrutinised.
